Brookdale acquisition creates autism leader

Brookdale Care, the UK's leading authority on Autism, has been acquired by Tracscare, the specialist provider of care and support for adults with challenging and complex needs. Arrowpoint's Healthcare sector team advised entrepreneur Michael McInerney, who founded Brookdale in 2002.

Established in 1983, Tracscare provides support and care for adults with complex needs associated with acquired brain injuries, Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD), mental health illnesses and both learning and physical disabilities. Specialist healthcare investor GSquare invested in 2014 to support group's buy-and-build development strategy.

Brookdale is renowned for its specialism in delivering outstanding care and support for people with ASD and its leading edge Milton Park campus. The campus provides an innovative care pathway, with specialist services for psychiatric intensive care, intensive behavioural support, transition and registered residential needs.

Based in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire, Brookdale will complement Tracscare's existing portfolio which includes services in the Midlands, the South West and South Wales. The partnership will see the two providers share best practice across services, enabling high quality care and support to be delivered efficiently across the enlarged group.

Peter Battle, Chief Executive of Tracscare, said: We are absolutely delighted at becoming the largest specialist provider of care and support for people with Autism in the country," this is a hugely significant moment in the journey of Tracscare. As an expert provider in Autism, Brookdale has a fantastic and well-deserved reputation.”

Michael McInerney commented: I appointed Arrowpoint because of the understanding they showed of Brookdale's specialist market and because of the commitment they gave me to provide hands-on support throughout the transaction. They delivered. I am very pleased with the result that we have achieved together.”

Karen Dawaf of Arrowpoint's Healthcare sector team concluded: Brookdale is at the cutting-edge of caring for people with Autism and Aspergers. With ever-increasing awareness of the complexity of delivering transformational outcomes around ASD, we were confident that Brookdale would attract serious attention from strategic groups and investors and this has proven to be the case. Tracscare, with the support of GSquare, offered Michael and the Brookdale team the most attractive combination of shared ethos, strategic fit and financial terms.”
