Roger Preston & Partners has been acquired by Grontmij NV

High-rise and sustainable building services consultants Roger Preston & Partners has been acquired by European design and engineering consultancy, Grontmij, in a deal valuing the business at £13m plus a performance related earn-out.

Headquartered in Maidenhead, with a substantial presence in Poland and with an extensive pedigree of international projects across Germany, North America and Asia, RPP has more than 75 years of experience in building consultancy and adds an additional 160 professionals to Grontmij.

RPP brings consultancy expertise to customers in integrated systems that offer sustainable, energy efficient solutions to both new and existing buildings. The firm has been involved in a number of refurbishment projects in the government, healthcare and hotel sectors with a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency. The consultancy has collaborated on high profile projects, working with architects like Austin-Smith and Foster & Partners, including work on the Commerzbank headquarters in Frankfurt, Europe's tallest building.

Derek Tuddenham, Managing Director of RPP explains: With the increasing consolidation of the building and engineering markets, the future of our business is best placed in the hands of an organisation with the resources and reach for it to continue to grow. The Arrowpoint Advisory team immediately recognised this need and managed the sales process to meet our requirements. Grontmij will be able to provide the necessary support and growth strategy for the business, making them the ideal buyer to carry on the RPP commitment to excellence.”

This announcement is the third strategic acquisition in the UK designed to expand and enhance the Grontmij portfolio with higher valued services. Jeremy Furniss, Managing Director at Arrowpoint Advisory commented: RPP fits perfectly with Grontmij's strategy of offering higher valued services. RPP was the latest in a series of recent purchases by Grontmij, including state-of-the-art landscape architecture firm Whitelaw Turkington and contract, project and claim management company, Trett Consulting. This is another important deal for our busy consultancies practice, following on from recent deals such as Advantage Business Group, Burks Green and Owen Williams.”

Grontmij is the fifth largest environmental and engineering consultancy in Europe. Its primary areas of focus include water, environment and building, transportation and systems. The deal brings synergistic opportunities with Grontmij's building businesses in Germany, Sweden, The Netherlands and Denmark. RPP's presence in Poland can greatly enhance the group's existing Polish activities.
