Board diversity in manufacturing

There has been a welcome, and growing, spotlight on female representation and board diversity across many sectors of the UK economy. The cultural impact of gender pay gap reporting this year have further reinforced this. But what is the current state of play in the manufacturing sector?

Arrowpoint Advisory recently examined female representation on boards across all FTSE100 manufacturing firms, with interesting results. On the positive end of the spectrum, diversity across manufacturing boards exceeded the universal FTSE average, with the Pharmaceutical and Aerospace & Defence sectors leading the field.

Yet the results also highlighted that there's a long way to go, just one company assessed had gender parity on its board, and only three had female CEOs. Leadership roles, it seems, still remain elusive.
